The Time of My Life

I've been chatting with an old friend this week. I find it fascinating to recollect things from our shared history and compare notes. It seems I was wrong on some things, remembered them incorrectly. I'm needing now to step back and reevaluate some of my opinions about my youth and about this particular friendship.

At the age of 15, life seemed pretty complicated. I transferred mid-year to a new school and had to make new friends. Thrust into a high school, no less... where in my old school, I was a 'senior' in junior high, I suddenly found myself a freshman in high school.

Trying to find my way, looking around, with only one friend to guide me through this whole new world (thank you Carolyn)... it seemed pretty daunting. But in a way, it was what I needed at that time in my life... to regain some anonymity, a fresh start.

When I look back on high school now, I feel like I am one of the lucky ones. I had an ab-solute-BLAST!!! Amazing teachers, really cool students, beautiful girls, country boys (oh, my...the country boyzzzz), nights of driving around the arcade, mud-riding, border-crossings for beer and all kinds of real, honest-to-god fun.

As I begin the planning stages for our reunion this Fall, many of these memories are flooding back after what seems like a long, long dry spell. And it feels so good...
